THE
MUZIK-ZONE
A Look At The Online
Music Outlets - BandMix
Ease of use:
- Features:
BandMix.com is more of a place for
musicians to find bands, band members, etc. in their own area than it is a
music listening website. Still, it can be an excellent place for
networking among musicians, songwriters, and publishers. You can see
our page here.
Accounts are free but you can get an
updated account for an additional $9.95/month (with discounts if you pay
for longer periods of time up front).
You can do a Zip Code search for
contacts within your own Zip Code, or you can specifically exclude your
Zip Code. The choice is yours and the contact names show up on your home
page. Yu can put a checkmark in a box for finding certain types of
musicians (strangely, songwriters are not a choice).
PROS:
You can upload audios, videos and photos.
Re-arranging the order of your tracks or videos is very easy. You can
create a "gig calendar" quite easily, too. Overall, the site is
very user-friendly.
They also have a musicians
"Want Ad" section which is a feature I've not seen elsewhere.
They also have (under MUSIC INDUSTRY
- see bottom of page) lists of labels, promoters, places you can get
rehearsal space, independent labels, management, lighting, recording
studios, and sound engineering services.
They have a forum and a FAQs
section, which many such sites lack.
CONS:
You have very limited upload space -
15Mb. It costs $9.95 to get 25Mb, which still isn't a lot. They also say
Premier membership gets you 150Mb space, so I don't know how to explain
the discrepancy.
They don't have embeddable
playlists, but that's because this is a site for musicians, not
listeners. I haven't created a listener account yet, so I can't comment
on that until I do.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
You should create both a listener account
and a musician account (probably need different e-mail addresses).
Be very selective about what you upload (because of the limited space
available).
Be careful to check out anyone
under the MUSIC INDUSTRY
lists before you sign an agreement with them. Neither BandMix nor Muzik-Zone
can vouch for anyone - and there are a lot of scams out there in the
music business, as you probably already know.
